Abstract
The road design project was carried out on the Watangta–Watu road section located in Bone Regency. This planning aims to develop an integrated transportation infrastructure system that can stimulate the economic growth of Bone Regency. In addition, the project also seeks to improve the safety and comfort of local residents and both domestic and international tourists visiting Pallime, which is known as one of the largest mangrove crab production centers in Bone Regency. Therefore, a geometric design and flexible pavement thickness analysis were conducted using the Bina Marga (MDPJ) 2024 and AASHTO 1993 methods. The geometric design resulted in two horizontal curves: the first located at STA 1+000 with a design speed of 40 km/h, a lane width of 4 meters, and a deflection angle (ΔC’) of 22.62°, using a Spiral–Circle–Spiral (SCS) curve type; and the second located at STA 3+500 with a design speed of 40 km/h, a lane width of 4 meters, and a deflection angle (ΔC’) of 16°, also using the Spiral–Circle–Spiral (SCS) configuration. The flexible pavement design using the Bina Marga (MDPJ) 2024 method produced a surface layer (AC-WC) thickness of 40 mm, a binder course (AC-BC) thickness of 60 mm, a base course thickness of 200 mm, and a sub-base thickness of 150 mm. Meanwhile, the AASHTO 1993 method resulted in a surface layer (asphalt concrete) thickness of 110 mm, a base course (crushed stone class A) thickness of 160 mm, and a sub-base (sand-gravel) thickness of 140 mm.Based on the comparative analysis of both methods, the Bina Marga (MDPJ) 2024 method is recommended as the design reference for the Watangta–Watu road section, as it produces the greatest total pavement thickness, providing a higher level of structural safety. The total estimated project cost (RAB) obtained from the design is Rp 13,303,103,167 (thirteen billion three hundred three million one hundred three thousand one hundred sixty-seven rupiah).
