Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' multicultural understanding in fostering tolerance toward cultural diversity at Taman Harapan Senior High School, Malang. The background of this study is based on the importance of multicultural education in developing student character, which is able to appreciate cultural, ethnic, and religious differences in the school environment.
The method used was descriptive qualitative, this research was conducted at Taman Harapan High School using data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. After that, research data is obtained which will be processed to produce the conclusions in this thesis.
The results show that multicultural understanding among students is
reflected in behaviors of mutual respect, tolerance, openness, and upholding the values of unity in daily life at school. Students not only understand the concept of difference but are also able to implement these values in social interactions, religious activities, and cultural celebrations within the school environment. These findings indicate that multicultural education at Taman Harapan Senior High School has been running well and has been able to foster a strong attitude of tolerance
among students, thus creating an inclusive and harmonious learning atmosphere. Thus, the implementation of multicultural education can be an effective strategy in creating a peaceful school environment free from conflict based on cultural and religious differences.
