This study aims to analyze the application of grammar in the mechanical editing
process of the nonfiction book Coffee Roasting Tactical Steps to Roasting Coffee
Beans for Beginners. The research focuses on identifying improvements in spelling,
punctuation use, sentence structure, and diction selection applied during
manuscript editing to enhance readability and message clarity for readers. The
method used is descriptive qualitative with data collected through observation of
manuscript revisions. Data analysis was conducted in depth using structural
grammar theory and applicable linguistic guidelines. The results show that
mechanical editing significantly contributes to correcting technical errors such as
spelling, punctuation, and consistency in terminology use, although some
inconsistencies were still found, especially in the writing of foreign terms and
complex punctuation. The editing process also emphasizes the importance of
maintaining a balance between formal rules and communication clarity so that the
book becomes a more effective and professional nonfiction reading resource. This
study contributes to improving the quality of mechanical editing in nonfiction
books, particularly in grammatical aspects.
