Abstract
This study examines Indonesia's role as an actor in global environmental politics through the Forest and Climate Change Program (FORCLIME), a bilateral collaboration with Germany that has focused on sustainable forest management and greenhouse gas emission reduction since 2010. Using Pamela S. Chasek's theoretical framework of Actors in the Environmental Arena and a descriptive qualitative method based on literature studies, this study finds that Indonesia can be categorized as a supporting state, a country that plays a role in supporting the global environmental agenda through the implementation of international policies and programs. Analysis of domestic political factors, cost-benefit comparisons, international political and diplomatic considerations, and the role of subnational actors indicates that Indonesia's involvement in FORCLIME not only impacts deforestation and emissions reductions but also strengthens the legitimacy of Indonesia's environmental diplomacy at the global level and its commitment to the Paris Agreement.
