Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of TikTok as an educational social communication medium in the context of mountain climbing, focusing on the TikTok account @shifakelana. Initially known as an entertainment platform, TikTok has now evolved into an effective means of disseminating information and education. Using a qualitative approach and Krippendorff's content analysis method, this study examined seven educational videos uploaded by @shifakelana between May and October 2024. The subcategories covered physical preparation, climbing equipment, how to overcome problems while climbing, tips and tutorials for mountain climbing, and advice on preserving nature.
The results show that @shifakelana's educational content covers various aspects of mountain climbing, including physical preparation, climbing equipment, handling problems during the climb, tips and tutorials, and advice on preserving nature. The content is presented in an informative, creative, and easy-to-understand manner, supported by engaging narratives, visuals, and text. Positive responses from viewers, such as high numbers of likes, comments, and shares, indicate that this educational content is not only needed but also effective in conveying its message.
The conclusion of this study is that TikTok has been successfully utilized as a new medium capable of disseminating education widely and interactively, in accordance with Pierre Levy's new media theory. The @shifakelana account serves as a concrete example of how educational content can be incorporated into social media platforms to increase public awareness and knowledge, particularly regarding mountain climbing.
