Abstract

This study discusses law enforcement efforts in hit-and-run cases by the Malang City Police Traffic Accident Unit. Hit-and-run cases are a form of traffic crime that causes material losses, injuries, and even death, and often leaves victims without assistance. The increasing number of traffic accidents, especially in Malang City, shows the urgency of effective handling. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of law enforcement by the Traffic Accident Unit and identify the obstacles faced in resolving hit-and-run cases. The research method used is sociological jurisprudence with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data was obtained through interviews with police officers and a literature review of laws and regulations, particularly Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation. The results of the study show that law enforcement has been carried out through penal and non-penal efforts, including investigation, inquiry, public education, and the application of procedures in accordance with standar operating procedures. However, obstacles remain, including limited personnel, inadequate facilities, and low public awareness of the law. The conclusion of this study emphasizes the importance of increasing police resources, technological support, and community participation in creating legal compliance and reducing the number of hit-and-run accidents.
