Abstract

Indonesian language is one of the subjects that plays a crucial role in the education system because Indonesian language is not only a language skill but also an important foundation for the academic, social, and cultural development of students. There are a number of students who dislike this subject because of the large number of reading passages. This phenomenon often occurs because, in the process of teaching Indonesian, educators do not sufficiently utilize learning media, whether concrete or digital. Additionally, the approaches used by educators have not been based on educational games. Therefore, this study aims to develop a learning medium called “Media Literacy Snakes and ladders,” which is based on educational games, specifically for teaching simple sentence reading to second-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Pakisaji.
This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method by applying the ADDIE development model, which consists of five stages: Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The application of this model is carried out systematically, starting with needs analysis, followed by the design of learning media, product development, implementation of media in the learning context, and finally evaluation of the feasibility of the developed media. The data collection techniques used in this study include observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The instruments applied in this study include observation guidelines, interview guidelines, validation questionnaires, teacher response questionnaires, student response questionnaires, and documentation guidelines.
The results of this study indicate that the snakes and ladders media literacy tool obtained a validation rate of 88.88% from subject matter experts and 92.5% from media experts, indicating that the media is suitable for implementation. The implementation in class 2 of SDNegeri 2 Pakisaji received positive responses from students with a percentage of 97.5% and responses from teachers reaching 92.85%. Therefore, media literacy snakes and ladders is considered suitable for use in the learning process because it is able to attract the interest and validity of students' learning activities and improve students' understanding of reading simple sentences. Based on the research findings, it is recommended that future research select different Indonesian language materials and integrate learning bases that are relevant to the characteristics of each student.
