Abstract

Changes in communication patterns in long-distance relationships can cause obstacles such as miscommunication and a decreased intensity of interaction between parents and children. This study aims to understand how the communication process occurs between parents and children when they are in a long-distance relationship. The method used is a case study with a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through interviews and documentation. Data analysis includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The theory used is the Social Exchange Theory, which emphasizes that social interaction is an exchange process between two parties who seek to maximize benefits and minimize losses. In the context of long-distance relationships, this theory is used to analyze how communication is maintained despite physical constraints posed by distance.
