Abstract

Mathematics is one of the most important subjects in education because it can improve students intellectual abilities. Many students dislike mathematics because of the many formulas that are considered difficult. This is because in the mathematics learning process, teachers don’t use real-life examples or concrete learning media. Teachers have also never used a Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach in mathematics instruction and have only employed analogy-based methods. Therefore, this study aims to develop a Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT)-based Cultural Ladder learning medium, specifically for the topic of area measurement using standard units, to make it more engaging, contextual, and relevant to local culture of students at SDN 2 Girimoyo Karangploso.
This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE development model, which consists of five stages: Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The application of this model is carried out in stages, starting from needs analysis, leraning media design, product development, implementation of media in learning, and evaluation of media feasibility. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The instruments used in this study were observation guidelines, interview guidelines, validation questionnaires, teacher response questionnaires, student response questionnaires, and documentation guidelines.
The results of this study indicate that the Tangga Budaya media obtained a material expert validation score of 87,5% and a media expert validation score of 85%, which shows that the media is suitable for implementation. Implementation in class IV of SDN 2 Girimoyo Karangploso received a positive response from students with a percentage of 87,5% and a positive response from teachers of 94,2%. Thus, the Tangga Budaya media is suitsble for use in learning and can attract students interest and understanding of the concept of area measurement in standard units. Based on the research conducted, suggestions for further research include selecting different mathematics materials and integrating them with various other cultural elements that are relevant to the characteristics of the students and their respective regions cultural.
