Mathematics education in elementary schools aims to develop logical, systematic, and creative thinking skills. Fractions, particularly comparing fractions, are often challenging topics for students. Therefore, learning media that are concrete, engaging, and facilitate active student engagement are needed. This research aims to develop fraction puzzles as a mathematics learning tool that can help fourth-grade elementary school students understand the concept of fractions.
This study used the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) development model. The trial subjects were fourth-grade students at SDN 02 Ngebong. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The research instruments included validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, and evaluation questions.
The results of the study indicate that the fraction puzzle media is suitable for use as a learning medium. The validation results from material experts were 89.2%, and media experts were 85.7%, with a very suitable category. The implementation of the media in the classroom showed an increase in students' understanding of the concept of fractions, as seen from the average learning outcomes reaching 94.54% with a good category. The responses of educators and students to the media were also very positive, as they were considered interesting, interactive, and easy to understand. Thus, the fraction puzzle media is effective and suitable for implementation as a mathematics learning medium for fraction material in grade IV elementary schools.
