Abstract

This study analyzes the communication process within the Golek Dino tradition in determining wedding dates among the Javanese community, with a case study conducted in Sumbersono Village, Dlanggu District, Mojokerto Regency. This tradition is significant as it reflects a belief system and cultural values passed down through generations, where the selection of auspicious days is carried out through the calculation of weton, neptu, and a local uniqueness known as Naga Dino. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a naturalistic paradigm and a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with couples who had undergone the Golek Dino process and local cultural experts, supported by documentation. The findings reveal that communication occurs through deliberation between the families of the bride and groom and the cultural expert, who plays the role of interpreter of cultural symbols as well as mediator in reaching an agreement. The presence of Naga Dino as an additional element serves as a distinctive feature of the tradition in Sumbersono Village, strengthening the symbolic meaning of wedding date selection. This tradition not only functions as a means of determining auspicious days but also serves as a medium for preserving cultural values and reinforcing social ties within the Javanese community.
