Abstract
Introduction: Kindergarten-aged children are vulnerable to injuries during school activities. Kindergarten teachers are the first responders in emergency situations, making their knowledge of first aid crucial. This study aimed to determine the relationship between length of service and kindergarten teachers' knowledge of first aid for injuries.
Method: This study used a cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach. The sample consisted of 95 kindergarten teachers in Bumiaji District, selected using a total sampling technique from July 9-14, 2025. Teachers' knowledge of first aid was measured using a first aid knowledge questionnaire, while length of service was identified through a demographic questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank test.
Results: The majority of respondents (78.9%) had worked for more than 3 years. The knowledge level of most teachers was in the adequate (47.4%) to good (45.3%) category. The Spearman Rank test showed a p-value of 0.007 (p < 0.05) and a correlation coefficient (r) of -0.276.
Discussion: This study found that most kindergarten teachers had more than three years of service and their knowledge level ranged from fair to good. The test results showed a significant relationship between length of service and teachers' knowledge of first aid, but this relationship was negative and weak. This means that teachers with longer service years tended to have lower knowledge. This finding underscores the need for ongoing training for teachers to ensure their readiness to provide first aid regardless of length of service.
