UPAYA DIPLOMASI KEBUDAYAAN INDONESIA MELALUI FASHION SHOW “KAIN DAN BATIK KU INDONESIA” DI ITALIA

This study examines Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy through the fashion show “Kain dan Batikku Indonesia” held in Italy. Italy was strategically chosen as the venue due to its status as a global fashion hub. The event served as a concrete form of cultural diplomacy by showcasing traditional Indonesian fashion and cuisine. It involved collaboration between the Indonesian Embassy in Rome, members of the Indonesian diaspora such as Ibu Eny Thalib, local designers, and support from the Mayor of San Polo d’Enza (Regio Emilia) as host. This cross-sector cooperation highlights the importance of synergy among actors and contextual approaches in effective cultural diplomacy. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through interviews, documentation, and literature review. The findings show that the event successfully captured local public interest, enhanced understanding of Indonesian culture, and contributed to strengthening Indonesia–Italy bilateral relations. The success also emphasizes the strategic role of the diaspora and local institutions in promoting Indonesia’s positive image globally.
