Penggunaan Plot Twist Anagnorisis dalam Penulisan Naskah Film “ABSENCE”

This work-based final project examines the role and application of the anagnorisis plot twist technique in the screenplay writing of the fictional film titled "ABSENCE." This film addresses the issues of fatherlessness and emotional communication within families, particularly between fathers and children. Using a literature review approach, observation of similar film works, and distribution of questionnaires to single-child families, the author analyses how the anagnorisis plot twist can be applied to build character depth, emotional conflict, and turning points in the storyline. In this film, the plot is conveyed symbolically and visually without direct verbal explanation, inviting the audience to experience the main character's emotional awareness.
The production stages are carried out comprehensively and structurally, starting from brainstorming ideas and in-depth research, writing and developing the script thru several stages of revision, to artistic design that combines visual elements such as lighting, visual metaphors, and set design. The pre-production process also involves casting, readings, and working out artistic details with the cinematography team. During production, the scriptwriter actively supervised dialog and on-set improvisation to ensure story continuity. Post-production stages include visual editing, continuity adjustments, and the creation of a theme song to support the film's emotional atmosphere. This entire process is carried out with the aim of creating a complete film narrative that is capable of conveying social issues with a strong cinematic approach.
The production results of this fictional film show that the use of the anagnorisis plot twist is able to strengthen the narrative and provide a deep emotional experience, as well as effectively convey social messages. The recognition of the film Absence as a finalist at the Sweden Film Awards is a significant achievement for the screenwriter and art director. This achievement reflects his success in combining narrative and symbolic message delivery strategies. From a narrative perspective, the message is structured thru a storyline that unfolds gradually and systematically. Meanwhile, symbolically, artistic aspects such as lighting, props, and visual composition are used to depict the main character's psychological state. The positive feedback provided by the judges serves as a key performance indicator (KPI) for this fiction film's final project.
