Abstract
Background: One of the serious impacts of social isolation is withdrawal. Social isolation is an attempt to avoid interaction and relationships with other people. Clients who experience social isolation are characterized by flat affect, sad affect, no enthusiasm/lethargy, no eye contact, no interest/refusal to interact with other people or the environment, withdrawal, feeling unsafe in public places, feeling preoccupied with their own thoughts. Individuals with schizophrenia who experience social isolation, such as liking to be alone, tend to show increased symptoms of social isolation and decreased social functioning. Therefore, interventions aimed at improving sleep quality have the potential to contribute to a decrease in psychotic symptoms.
Methods: This descriptive case study method uses a nursing care approach in the form of assessment, establishing nursing care diagnoses, preparing plans, carrying out nursing actions and evaluating the actions taken. In this case study, nursing care was provided to socially isolated patients. The data sources for this study came from patients using interview techniques, observation and physical examination and documentation studies. The instruments used were interview sheets, observation sheets and using data analysis techniques, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusions.
Results: The results of the study showed that the provision of social skill training music therapy for ten consecutive days had a positive impact on the problem of social isolation. Before the intervention, the patient experienced quite severe social isolation problems. After the intervention was carried out, the results were that the patient was able to get acquainted but was still given motivation to be able to get acquainted with people around him. Thus, this intervention must be carried out gradually to provide an effect that is in accordance with the patient's complaints, such as the patient being able to interact with friends around him.
Discussion: The results of the study showed that social skill training therapy is effective in improving social isolation problems in schizophrenia patients. In addition, social skill training therapy also helps patients in reducing symptoms of social isolation such as flat affect, sad affect, no enthusiasm/lethargy, no eye contact and increasing the client's ability to interact with other people or the environment.
