Abstract
Background: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of cancer patients worldwide increased in 2020. Chemotherapy side effects can occur because the drugs are very potent. This can result in nausea and vomiting, the most common side effects of chemotherapy. Aromatherapy is widely chosen because it is easy, safe, and affordable. Peppermint aromatherapy is the preferred aromatherapy.
Method: This research method uses qualitative research strategy, namely Case Study with inclusion criteria, namely Patients undergoing chemotherapy and experiencing complaints of nausea and vomiting during chemotherapy. This study explains the nursing care in reducing nausea and vomiting of cancer patients in the Semeru ward of Dr. Saiful Anwar Hospital, Malang City. Treatment was carried out for 5 days, the level of nausea and vomiting was measured using the Visual Analog Scale as a research instrument. The administration of aromatherapy was given 3 times a day for 8-10 minutes as much as 1-3 drops using a dry tissue.
Result: The results of this study indicate that peppermint aromatherapy is effective in reducing nausea and vomiting in chemotherapy patients. The results were written based on the Indonesian Nursing Outcome Standards (SLKI).
Discussion: Peppermint aromatherapy can be an additional non-pharmacological treatment to reduce nausea and vomiting in chemotherapy patients. However, pharmacological treatment in collaboration with other medical professionals is also necessary.
