Abstract

Background: Obstructive ileus is a disorder caused by a blockage in the small or large intestine that occurs partially or completely due to incarcerated hernia, intussusception, adhesions, ascariasis, tumors, volvulus, and gallstones that enter the ileus. The purpose of this paper is to determine the effect of finger-holding relaxation therapy on reducing pain felt by patients with postoperative obstructive ileus during 3 days of practice in the Children's Room of UMM Hospital. Method: This study used a qualitative research design with a Case Study Research strategy. This study explains nursing care for patients with obstructive ileus in the Children's Room of UMM Hospital. The data collection instruments used were the nursing assessment format and nursing care. Case studies were conducted by collecting data through interviews, observations, physical examinations and documentation seen from medical records. Results: This study obtained results of a decrease in pain from a pain scale of 5 to a pain scale of 3 for 4 days after being given finger-holding relaxation therapy. Conclusion: Giving finger grip relaxation therapy can be recommended for patients with postoperative obstructive ileus as an effort to reduce the scale of pain experienced by patients.
