Abstract

The foundation of this study stems from the insufficient capacity of students in selecting appropriate vocabulary, constructing sentences, and applying correct spelling in their writing efforts. Evidence of this was demonstrated by the performance of the 22 learners, where only 22% succeeded in meeting the minimum mastery learning criteria (KKM) for narrative text writing, leaving a significant 78% who did not meet the requisite standards. A contributing factor to this situation was the absence of learning media utilized by the instructor, resulting in diminished motivation among students during the educational process, which appeared passive due to its repetitive nature. This lack of engagement severely impacted the students' academic performance. To enhance the narrative writing learning experience in the classroom, the introduction of picture series media was proposed as a strategy to encourage students to participate actively and boost their enthusiasm for learning. The aim of this study is to create and assess the effectiveness of picture series media in enhancing students' narrative text writing skills. This research follows a Research and Development (R&D) approach, specifically adhering to the ADDIE development model. The research design adopted was a Pretest Posttest Design. Participants included 22 fourth-grade SD. Data collection methods comprised a writing test for narrative texts, along with questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. Findings indicate a noticeable improvement in writing performance before and after the implementation of picture series media, evidenced by an increase of approximately 0.43 as measured by the normalized gain test. Additionally, a comparison was made between thitung and ttabel through a t-test (one-tailed), yielding thitung = 42.709 and α = 5%, resulting in ttabel = 21. This leads to the conclusion that employing picture series media significantly enhances the narrative writing skills of students at this particular school.
