Abstract

Background : Adolescent obesity has become a major global and national health issue with a steadily increasing prevalence. Several contributing factors include physical activity, dietary patterns such as fast food consumption, and genetic predisposition, particularly parental history of obesity.
Methods : This study employed an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 50 students diagnosed with obesity. The entire population was used as the sample through a total sampling technique. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires, and data analysis was conducted using bivariate and multivariate logistic regression.
Results : The results showed that the majority of respondents were male (60%) and aged 16 years (36%). Most respondents had low physical activity levels (54%), frequently consumed fast food (62%), and had a high risk of obesity due to parental history (66%). Multivariate analysis revealed that parental history of obesity had a significant effect on adolescent obesity (OR = 0.076; 95% CI = 0.012–0.482; p = 0.011), followed by physical activity (OR = 0.127; 95% CI = 0.021–0.780; p = 0.028). Meanwhile, fast food consumption frequency was not statistically significant in the multivariate model (p = 0.228). The model’s R² value was 0.41, indicating that the independent variables explained 41% of the variance in adolescent obesity.
Conclusion : There is a significant influence of physical activity, fast food consumption frequency, and parental obesity history on the incidence of adolescent obesity at SMAN 2 Palangka Raya. Promotive and preventive efforts are necessary to reduce obesity rates among adolescents, particularly through nutrition education and increased physical activity.
