Abstract
Learning in elementary schools must align with students' developmental
characteristics, including in Javanese language lessons, which is a local content
subject in East Java. One of the important materials in Javanese language lessons is
Aksara Jawa (Javanese script), taught starting from Grade III. This material is
challenging due to its syllabic nature and its difference from Latin script. Based on
observations at SDN Gadang 4, it was found that third-grade students lacked interest
and experienced difficulties in understanding Aksara Jawa due to monotonous
teaching methods and minimal use of instructional media. To address this issue, the
researcher developed a game-based learning medium called MONAJA (Monopoli
Aksara Jawa). This medium is expected to enhance student motivation and
understanding through a play-based learning approach. MONAJA is designed to be
more interactive compared to previous research and will be tested in the third grade
at SDN Gadang 4. The resulting product from this research and development is
focused on design, which may take the form of a design model or instructional
media design.
The goal of this research and development is to produce a product through
a development process and to assess changes that occur over a certain period. The
development of the MONAJA learning media uses the ADDIE model (Analysis,
Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) because it is systematic and
aligns with the development goals.
The study was conducted at SDN Gadang 4, Malang City, in April 2025,
with the media tailored to the characteristics of third-grade students. The aim of the
research is to determine the outcome of the MONAJA media development through
qualitative and quantitative data to assess the feasibility and benefits of the media
in Javanese language learning, particularly in Aksara Jawa material. The
development of MONAJA media for Grade III Javanese lessons at SDN Gadang 4
uses the ADDIE model and aims to produce media suitable for the Aksara Jawa
material. Validation was conducted by media experts (75%), material experts
(67,5%), student responses (100%), and teacher responses (87,5%). These results
indicate that MONAJA is feasible and appealing for use in Javanese language
learning.
