Abstract
Hate speech is a linguistic phenomenon that contradicts the concept of
politeness in language as an indicator of ethical communication. This research is
titled 'Hate Speech of the Public Against the Parliament in the YouTube Video
News of Mahfud MD's Working Meeting with Commission III of the Indonesian
House of Representatives, Regarding the Strange Transaction of Rp. 349 Trillion.'
The purpose of this study is to describe the forms of hate speech on social media
as well as speech acts when commenting on YouTube and other social media. The
research formulation aims to describe the forms of hate speech on social media
and the attitudes of the public towards the circulating news in the social world.
The data collection technique is in the form of documentation taken from
several comments on social media. The analysis steps used to refine the results
involve descriptive qualitative analysis, using a pragmatic approach. The data
source is taken from a YouTube video uploaded by Kompas.com on March 29,
2023, with a duration of over 7 hours. The collected data is then processed
through several steps, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation,
and conclusion drawing.
Based on the analysis and discussion, it can be concluded that many forms
of hate speech were found in the form of words, phrases, and sentences that aim to
insult, provoke, incite, and have unpleasant actions in each of the data
encountered.
