Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a degenerative disease that is a leading cause of death
worldwide, characterized by the body's inability to produce or use insulin effectively.
Complications such as peripheral neuropathy often cause musculoskeletal symptoms, including
pain and tingling in the feet, which impair the quality of life of patients, especially the elderly.
Diabetic foot exercises are an effective non-pharmacological intervention in improving blood
circulation and reducing pain. This study focuses on Mr. S, a 55-year-old patient with type 2
diabetes who experienced acute pain in both feet.
Method: The research method used in the preparation of this final scientific paper is a case
study report. The assessment and data collection process was carried out using various
techniques, including patient interviews, observation, and documentation. The instruments used
were a pain measurement instrument using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and the Indonesian
Nursing Outcome Standards (SLKI). The non-pharmacological intervention provided was foot
exercise therapy, administered once daily for approximately 15 minutes and evaluated over
three days.
Results: The pain scale of patients with Diabetic Foot before the pain management intervention
was 6. The pain scale of patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with Diabetic Foot gradually
decreased after the pain management intervention, starting from 6 on the first day and dropping
to 4 on the third day. Therefore, it can be concluded that the pain scale in patients with Diabetic
Foot decreased with the implementation of the pain management intervention.
Conclusion: Foot exercise therapy can be a supporting modality in pain management for
patients with diabetes mellitus. However, pharmacological treatment is also needed in
collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
