Abstract

This research investigates university students’ perceptions towards YouTube as a media for learning English skills. In the digital age, YouTube has emerged as one of the most accessible and widely used platforms offering English language learning resources outside the traditional classroom. This study employs a qualitative methods using interview and a Likert-scale questionnaire adapted from Chau, Dat, An, Anh (2024) to gather data from university students who have used YouTube to improve their English skills. The findings reveal that most students have a positive perception of YouTube as a learning tool, particularly in enhancing their listening and speaking skills. Although reading and writing received slightly lower perception scores, many respondents still acknowledged the benefits. However, challenges such as distraction, lack of structured guidance, and the mental effort required to stay focused were also reported. Overall, this study concludes that YouTube is a valuable supplementary medium for learning English, especially when used purposefully and with proper guidance. The results suggest that integrating YouTube into language instruction can enhance students’ motivation, engagement, and language development.
