Abstract

Organic waste management in markets remains a serious environmental issue due to its high volume and the lack of optimal processing. One potential solution is the utilization of organic waste as food for earthworms (Lumbricus rubellus) through a fermentation method. This study aims to determine the effect of waste type and fermentation method on the food preferences and body weight of earthworms (Lumbricus rubellus) as a learning resource for biology. The type of research is an experimental study conducted over 4 weeks. Data analysis used the Two-Way ANOVA test with SPSS. The results of the study showed that there was a significant influence of the type of waste on body weight and eating preferences with the best type of waste in S3, due to the complete and balanced nutritional content, thus increasing the growth rate of earthworm body weight, The results also showed that there was a significant influence of the fermentation method on body weight and eating preferences, the best treatment of the fermentation method was obtained in F3, this was because it had a soft feed texture and was more easily absorbed by earthworms which increased eating preferences and the growth rate of earthworm body weight, The results showed that there was a significant influence of the interaction of the type of waste and the fermentation method on eating preferences and earthworm body weight, the best treatment was obtained by S3F3 this was due to the combination of feed ingredient nutrition and fermentation methods which increased worm consumption and growth. This research has the potential to be used as a source for learning Biology in Phase E of class X of SMA/MA, especially on environmental pollution material and the resulting products can be used in the form of teaching modules.
