Abstract

Javanese language learning in elementary schools plays an important role in preserving local culture, one of which is through the introduction of Javanese script. However, the results of observations in class V of SDN Wonosalam 1 show that students have difficulty in memorizing and writing Javanese characters, and are less interested in the learning process because the media used is not attractive. This study aims to develop a video-based learning media “Sekar Aksara Jawa” that combines elements of traditional songs (songs game) and visualization of Javanese script to increase students' interest and understanding of the material.
The method used is research and development (R&D) with the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The media was developed in the form of a video of Javanese songs accompanied by gamelan music, and displays Javanese script animation thematically. The validation results showed that this media obtained an assessment from media experts by 94,73%, material experts by 92,85%, and teachers by 96,15%, which included a very valid category. The trial to grade V students showed a positive response with a percentage of 91,4%, which indicates that this media is effective and interesting in the learning process. It can be concluded that the “Sekar Aksara Jawa” video media is suitable for use as a fun and contextual learning alternative to strengthen students' understanding of Javanese characters.
