Abstract

Background: Watching Korean dramas is popular among students, including nursing students, but high levels of viewing can reduce self-control, which plays a role in maintaining a balance between academic and personal activities. Excessive viewing can lead to procrastination, sleep disturbances, and decreased academic performance, while moderate viewing can reduce stress. This study aims to examine the relationship between viewing intensity and self-control in nursing students to find a balance between entertainment and academic responsibilities.
Method: The study employed a cross-sectional design approach, with the population being students from the class of 2022. A total sampling technique was used. The instruments used included a Korean drama viewing intensity scale sheet to measure the intensity of Korean drama viewing and a Self-Control Scale (SCS) questionnaire for self-control. Data analysis used frequency distribution for univariate data testing, while for bivariate data testing, the Spearman rho correlation test was used to analyze ordinal data.
Results: Respondent characteristics based on age, average age 21 (0.743%). Male gender 46 (17.8%), female 212 (82.2%). Residence boarding 189 (73.3%), contract 39 (15.1%), house 30 (11.6%). The level of intensity of watching Korean dramas is moderate (95.0%), high (4.3%), low (0.8%). The level of self-control is sufficient (64.3%), good (1.9%), less (33.7%). The results of the Spearman rho test obtained a significance value obtained p = 0.000 <0.05. For the relationship between the intensity of watching Korean dramas and self-control.
Conclusion: It was concluded that there was a positive correlation between the intensity of watching Korean dramas and Self-Control in students, where an increase in intensity tended to be followed by an increase in Self-Control.
