Abstract
Ecranisation is the process of media adaptation involving a literary work, such as a novel, that is transformed into another form, namely a film. The process of ecranisation is not as simple as transferring a story into another medium, but also involves reinterpreting the literary text into a new form of audio-visual expression. In this process, changes naturally occur and are unavoidable due to the differences in the medium of storytelling. These changes may take the form of reduction in certain parts of the novel, the addition of scenes to meet cinematic needs, and various alterations in parts of the novel that are adjusted to suit filmmaking requirements.
Religiosity refers to a person’s internalized relationship with their Creator, which is reflected in their attitudes and daily behavior. 172 Days, a novel by Nadzira Shafa, is one of the religious-themed works successfully adapted into a feature film. Based on this, the research problems addressed in this study are: (1) What forms of reduction in religiosity occur in the process of ecranisation of 172 Days from the novel into its film version? (2) What forms of addition in religiosity occur in the process of ecranisation of 172 Days from the novel into its film version? (3) What forms of varied changes in religiosity occur in the process of ecranisation of 172 Days from the novel into its film version?
The method used in this research is descriptive with a sociological approach to literature. The data sources for this research are the novel 172 Days and the film 172 Days. A literature study was conducted to document findings, which were then reduced to summarize, identify the core problems, and focus on data related to the ecranisation of religiosity.
From the results of the analysis and discussion, it can be concluded that the ecranisation process of the novel 172 Days into the film 172 Days can lead to various changes that intersect with the values of religiosity present in the original work.
