Abstract

Education is a way for humans to develop their potential in knowledge, attitudes, and skills. Based on observations and interviews with first-grade teachers at SDN Kauman 3, Malang City, on February 23, 2024, it was found that several first-grade students still cannot read. Therefore, engaging and interactive learning tools are needed to assist students in learning to read. The goal is to make it easier for students to understand the material taught by teachers and to be more active in teaching and learning activities.
The research method used is the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model, which consists of five steps: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The data analysis methods applied in this study include qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
The results of the study indicate that the syllable block learning media has met the validity level and is in accordance with the criteria. This is supported by the percentage obtained from media experts of 84% with a very feasible category for testing, and the validation results from material experts of 81% with a very feasible category for use, and the results of the evaluation questions obtained a percentage value of 91%. The student response questionnaire obtained a percentage value of 93%, and the results of the teacher's response obtained a percentage value of 95%, which is categorized as good and interesting. This can be interpreted that the development of syllable block media in the initial reading material of the Indonesian language subject for grade 1 elementary school students is valid and interesting to be used as a learning medium.
