Abstract
This research is motivated by the need for additional sources in education that are innovative and in accordance with the Merdeka Curriculum, especially in descriptive text material for grade VII SMP. The available textbooks are considered unable to develop students' writing skills and understanding of descriptive text thoroughly. This research aims to: (1) describe the initial condition of the enrichment book used by the school so far, (2) develop a description text enrichment book in accordance with the standards of the publisher PT Intan Pariwara, and (3) test the feasibility of the developed enrichment book. The focus of the research is directed at the process and results of the enrichment book development as well as its feasibility for use in Indonesian language learning.
This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE development model, which includes five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data analysis was conducted based on the ADDIE stages in the development of the Description Text Enrichment Book: Knowing and Describing Historical Places. Data were collected through junior high school teacher trials and student trials. Instruments in the form of questionnaires and observation sheets were analyzed descriptively to assess the feasibility, readability, and attractiveness of the book analyzed using a Likert scale. The data was strengthened through triangulation, resulting in a comprehensive picture of the quality of the book as teaching media.
This enrichment book was developed based on the findings that the books that have been used in schools are still general in nature, less interesting, minimal writing exercises, and have not supported 21st century learning. Through the ADDIE model, a book of Knowing and Describing Historical Places was developed according to PT Intan Pariwara standards and equipped with digital features such as QR codes, learning videos, and Quizizz-based quizzes to support independent and collaborative learning. The feasibility test results showed a score of 86.67% from teachers and 86.88% from students, with an average of 86.78%, including the category “very feasible.” This book proved to be effective in improving understanding of the structure and characteristics of description text, encouraging writing skills, and helping teachers organize creative learning. In conclusion, this enrichment book was successfully developed as an interactive, innovative, and appropriate teaching media for junior high school students, and is suitable for wide use in Indonesian language learning.
