Abstract
Major depression is a psychological disorder in the form of anxiety that can occur in any human being. The most severe consequence of major depression is suicide. Major depression can be explained through behaviorism theory, which aims to predict or observe individual stimuli and responses. Understanding major depression can reduce suicide rates. The objectives of this study are: (1) To explain the form of major depression experienced by the main character in Tere Liye's novel Pulang, (2) To explain the various factors causing the major depression experienced by the main character in Tere Liye's novel Pulang, (3) To describe how to overcome the major depression experienced by the main character.

The data source for this study was obtained from Tere Liye's novel Pulang. Data in this study include narrative excerpts, sentences, and paragraphs. The data collection technique used was listening and note-taking.
