Abstract
Andrographis paniculata, commonly known as sambiloto, is a medicinal plant
containing the active compound andrographolide, which possesses various
pharmacological effects such as anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and
hepatoprotective properties. With the growing use of herbal medicines, it is
essential to ensure that marketed products meet established quality standards to
guarantee their safety and efficacy. This study aims to evaluate the quality standards
of sambiloto herbal products from PT. Mustika Ratu Tbk. by assessing the presence
and content of andrographolide based on the company's standardized Standard
Operating Procedures (SOPs). The analysis was conducted using Thin Layer
Chromatography-Spectrophotometry (TLC-Spectrophotometry) for qualitative
detection and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) for quantitative
determination. The TLC-Spectrophotometry results showed a Retardation Factor
(Rf) value of 0.56, which is close to the standard value of 0.55, confirming the
presence of andrographolide in the product. Further HPLC analysis indicated an
andrographolide content of 5.57% w/w, which exceeds the minimum requirement
of 3.80% stated in the Indonesian Herbal Pharmacopoeia. Therefore, the sambiloto
herbal product from PT. Mustika Ratu Tbk. meets the established quality standards,
ensuring it is safe and effective for consumer use. This study contributes to the
quality control of herbal medicines and can serve as a reference for the
pharmaceutical industry in maintaining the quality of sambiloto-based products.
