Abstract
Low back pain (LBP) is one of the musculoskeletal disorders commonly experienced by administrative workers due to prolonged sitting. Excessive pressure on the spinal structure during prolonged static sitting can trigger muscle disorders, spasms, and tissue inflammation.
Objective: This study aims to investigate the relationship between prolonged sitting duration and lower back pain complaints among administrative staff at Sumberglagah General Hospital.
Methods: The study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 75 administrative staff as participants. Data collection was conducted using the Work Sitting Questionnaire (WSQ) to measure daily sitting duration and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) to assess disability levels due to lower back pain complaints.
Results: Pearson's correlation test revealed a significant association between sitting duration and lower back pain complaints (r = 0.686; p = 0.001). The longer the sitting duration, the higher the tendency for lower back pain complaints to increase.
Conclusion: There is a meaningful association between prolonged sitting duration and lower back pain complaints among administrative staff at Sumberglagah General Hospital, necessitating ergonomic interventions and workplace health promotion to reduce the risk of lower back pain.
