Abstract
Background: Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) are infectious diseases that are the leading cause of death among infants in developing countries, including Indonesia. Risk factors include exposure to cigarette smoke and air pollution. The case in Slorok Village shows a three-year-old toddler suffering from ARI due to an environment exposed to cigarette smoke, with symptoms such as cough, fever, and difficulty breathing. Objective: to understand the experiences of parents in caring for children with ARI. Method: this research uses qualitative methods and a case study approach. The research subjects consist of two parents, Mrs. M as the mother and Mr. R as the father, validated through source triangulation, namely semi-structured face-to-face interviews. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, audio recording, and documentation. Results: The analysis obtained by the researcher from the interview results formulated 3 themes, namely: 1) Strategies for treating children's ARI at home, 2) The role of family support in caring for children with ARI, 3) Coping mechanisms. Conclusion: Parents in Slorok Village have a limited understanding of ARI, which they obtain from doctors and personal experience. They care for their children by maintaining a proper diet, avoiding cigarette smoke, ensuring adequate rest, and receiving family support. Coping mechanisms such as patience and seeking forgiveness help them manage stress. This research highlights the importance of health education and raising awareness about the prevention of Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI).
