Abstract

The use of reading corners in improving students' reading literacy is an important program that must be implemented by schools in utilizing reading corners to improve students' reading literacy. Therefore, reading literacy can be improved again if supported by the existence of a reading corner program in the classroom. This study aims to: (1) describe the use of reading corners in improving reading literacy in grade III elementary school students and (2) describe the supporting and inhibiting factors for the use of reading corners in improving reading literacy in grade III elementary school students.
This study uses a type of descriptive qualitative research. This research was carried out at SDN 2 Landungsari, Malang Regency which focuses on the use of reading corners. In the implementation, the researcher carried out observation, interview, and documentation activities in obtaining data results. The research was conducted from May to June 2025.
The results of the study show that the use of reading corners plays an important role in fostering interest in reading. In addition, the reading corner also helps improve students' literacy skills, including the ability to understand reading, increase vocabulary, and expand insights. An interesting and relevant collection of books encourages students to continue reading throughout the day. The existence of reading corner activities, the classroom atmosphere becomes more lively and supports the creation of a positive literacy culture. The supporting factor for the use of reading corners is the availability of reading materials that vary and according to the level of student development. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factor in the use of the reading corner is the lack of interest in reading from the five students, because they have not found the type of reading that suits their preferences. This study provides recommendations for the implementation of a reading corner program that is more effective in improving reading literacy skills.
