Abstract
Background: STEMI is a clinical syndrome that occurs due to acute coronary occlusion of the arteries due to prolonged intracoronary thrombosis as the cause of the rupture of atherosclerosis plaques on the epicardial coronary wall resulting in a blockage of blood flow to the heart that triggers shortness of breath. Measures to overcome suffocation management can be in the form of monitoring breathing patterns, providing oxygen therapy collaboration, and semi fowler positions to reduce shortness of breath. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the combination of oxygen therapy and semi fowler position on improving breathing patterns in ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) patients.
Methods: The research method used in the preparation of this Final Scientific Paper uses case study reports. The author follows the scientific method according to the rules of the nursing process which includes, study, data analysis, nursing interventions, implementation, and evaluation referring to SDKI, SLKI, and SIKI. The assessment process uses data collection with interview, observation, documentation, and participatory studies.
Results: After nursing intervention in the form of oxygen therapy and a semi-fowler position, the results were obtained with an increase in oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, and improvement in breathing pattern. The results showed that before being given a semi fowler position, oxygen saturation was 89% and respiratory rate was 30x/min in the abnormal category. Meanwhile, after being given the semi fowler position, the oxygen saturation increased to 99% and a decrease in respiratory rate to 20x/minute in the normal category.
Conclusion: The administration of oxygen therapy combined with the semi fowler position was effective in improving breathing patterns in STEMI patients.
