Abstract

Background: Hallucinations are sensory perception disorders in a person in the form of perceptions accompanied by false sensations in the five senses. The most common hallucinations in schizophrenia are auditory hallucinations. The purpose of this study was to identify the success of the application of Thought stopping therapy in helping to control auditory hallucinations in schizophrenia patients Method: The design of this study used a case study research approach with a Non-probability Sampling technique with a purposive sampling model on 1 person with auditory hallucinations at the Bina Laras Social Rehabilitation Unit. The instrument used to measure the level of hallucinations used The Psychotic Symptom Rating Scales (PSYRATS). The intervention implemented in this study was thought-stopping therapy. Thought-stopping therapy is a cognitive therapy that instructs oneself to stop negative thoughts through a startling stimulus, such as saying the word "STOP!".
Results: The PSYRATS score results were obtained before the application of tought stopping therapy with a score of 14 indicating a moderate level of hallucinations. After the application of tought stopping therapy, the PSYRATS score results were 8 indicating a low level of hallucinations. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the application of tought stopping therapy can help to control hallucinations and reduce the frequency of hallucinations.
