Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of gadget usage intensity on the social interaction of children aged 6–10 years in Kampung Kwansan, Sawojajar Subdistrict, Malang City. The background of this research is the increasing use of gadgets among children, which has led to a decline in the quality of direct social interactions. This research uses a quantitative approach with an associative type of study. Data collection techniques involved distributing questionnaires and conducting direct observations of 20 children selected through total sampling.

The research instruments were tested for validity and reliability, and the results showed that all items were feasible for use. Data analysis techniques used include simple linear regression and t-tests for hypothesis testing. The findings indicate a significant negative effect of gadget usage intensity on children's social interaction. The higher the intensity of gadget use, the lower the level of social interaction demonstrated by the children.

This study recommends that parents and schools pay more attention to the duration and frequency of gadget use among children. Supervision and time management of gadget use are necessary to optimally support children's social development.
