Abstract
Interpersonal communication is one of the main aspects and an important foundation in building a healthy and harmonious family relationship, especially in meeting the emotional needs of adolescent children who are experiencing various physical and psychological changes. This study aims to understand how communication between mothers and male teenagers occurs and its impact on the fulfillment of emotional needs in Branta Pesisir Village, Tlanakan District, Pamekasan Regency. A qualitative approach was used by collecting data through interviews and observations of three pairs of mothers and teenage boys in Gilin Hamlet.
The research findings reveal that two-way communication allows adolescents to express their feelings and thoughts more openly, so that they feel understood and get emotional support from their mothers. This pattern of communication creates a warm and respectful atmosphere, and strengthens the emotional connection between mothers and adolescent boys, while supporting the development of self-confidence and social skills. On the other hand, one-way communication from the mother without room for the child to respond leads to emotional distance, misunderstanding, and discourages the child from expressing his true feelings. This can lead to loneliness and difficulty in coping with the pressures of everyday life for adolescent boys.
Therefore, the creation of balanced communication between mother and child is an important key in meeting the emotional needs of adolescents. Parents are expected to build warm relationships while providing space for children to develop independently, thus helping adolescents develop better self-confidence and social skills as well as optimal emotional well-being.
