Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of using Instagram filters on the construction of students’ visual identity in cyberspace. This research applies a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews with key informants, peer triangulation, and expert validation. The findings reveal that Instagram filters not only enhance visual aesthetics but also influence students’ self-image perceptions. Students tend to construct an ideal self-image through filters to meet digital beauty standards, although this often creates discrepancies with their actual physical identity. Dependence on filters also results in psychological effects, such as body dissatisfaction, social anxiety, and decreased self-confidence. This study is expected to raise students’ critical awareness to use social media wisely and maintain a balance between digital identity and authentic self.
