Each teacher possesses individual teaching abilities, including the ability to teach reading skills and comprehension of Arabic texts. At MTs. YPPMI Kangean, teachers apply their pedagogical competence in the teaching process. Therefore, the researcher aims to examine the role of Arabic language teachers’ pedagogical competence in students’ mastery of reading skills.
The objectives of this study are: (1) to investigate the role of the Arabic language teacher’s pedagogical competence in the learning process of eighth-grade students at MTs. YPPMI Kangean, and (2) to analyze the influence of the teacher’s pedagogical competence on students’ mastery of reading skills.
This research adopts a qualitative approach with a case study design. The data were collected through three primary techniques: observation, interviews with both teachers and students, and document analysis.
The results of this study indicate that: (1) The Arabic language teacher for eighth-grade students at MTs. YPPMI Kangean has implemented several aspects of pedagogical competence, particularly in creating a supportive Arabic language learning environment, conducting student-centered Arabic instruction, and integrating evaluation and feedback into the learning process. (2) The pedagogical competence of the Arabic teacher has had a significant impact on students' mastery of Maharah Qira’ah (reading skills), as evidenced by students’ increased concentration, enhanced learning motivation, and the development of peer mentoring practices.
