Abstract
Social media has become a vital space for people to express political opinions and humanitarian solidarity. One widely discussed issue is public support for Palestine through digital campaigns such as Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS). This study aims to explore how user comments on the Instagram account @gerakanbds construct public narratives through frequently used words. The research focuses on identifying the most dominant terms used by audiences in response to the campaign. This project is grounded in the theories of Audience Engagement, Political Consumerism, and Digital Collective Action, which explain how public participation in social issues occurs through digital platforms. The study uses computational content analysis with a qualitative descriptive approach. Using Voyant Tools, the researcher analyzed 14 comment documents collected from January to September 2024. The findings reveal that words such as “boikot” (boycott), “Israel,” “Palestina” (Palestine), and brand names like “HP,” “KFC,” and “Starbucks” frequently appear in the comments, reflecting emotional involvement and political awareness. These comments do not merely express opinions but function as tools for digital mobilization. This research contributes to the field of digital communication studies by demonstrating how online discourse reflects collective meaning-making among audiences. Future studies are encouraged to explore personal motivations and emotional reasoning through in-depth interviews or focus group discussions (FGDs), as well as to compare audience engagement across other platforms such as Twitter, TikTok, or YouTube for broader digital campaign strategies.
