ANALISIS ISI PESAN ANTI-PERANG PADA FILM ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT 2022

This study aims to analyze and describe the forms of anti-war messages contained in the 2022 version of the film “All Quiet on the Western Front.” As a mass communication medium, films have the ability to convey complex messages, including criticism of war and its impact on humanity. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive content analysis methods. The unit of analysis in this study includes scenes relevant to anti-war messages. Data were collected through non-participatory observation of the film and documentation of supporting sources.
The results of the study show that the anti-war messages in this film are conveyed through four prominent themes. First, explicit depictions of the brutality of war, highlighting the cruelty of the battlefield and the physical suffering of soldiers to reject the normalization of war. Second, depictions of psychological trauma, showing the impact of war destruction on the mental condition of soldiers, particularly evident in the transformation of the main character from false enthusiasm to emptiness. Third, criticism of propaganda and false nationalism, which exposes the manipulation of the younger generation and creates a wide gap between the decision-making elite and the reality on the front lines. Fourth, the highlighting of human values and their loss, where moments of solidarity between soldiers are tragically destroyed by the brutality of war.
