Abstract

This research aims to understand the process and mechanism of how skill guidance can help People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ) in achieving independence. The subject of this study includes two main parties, namely representatives from UPT. Bina Laras Rehabilitation Kediri as the implementer of the program, and People with Mental Disabilities (ODGJ) who are the main targets and at the same time actors in the implementation of the program. This study uses a qualitative approach to explore information in depth through data collection techniques in the form of direct observation in the field, in-depth interviews with various parties involved, and documentation of various activities related to the program. To ensure the validity and credibility of the data, source triangulation, triangulation technique, and time triangulation techniques are used by comparing information obtained from various sources. The results of the study show that these activities can form three aspects of independence developed through capacity building programs, namely, first, social independence encourages People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ) to interact and communicate with their friends, which is important for social functioning and connection with the environment. Second, emotional independence allows People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ) to recognize and manage their emotions, divert stress and anxiety, and increase confidence through achievement in tasks. Third, economic independence provides skills that support People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ) in entrepreneurship and achieving financial independence, so that they can contribute better to society. This study shows that this program not only helps People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ) in rehabilitation, but also prepares them for a more independent and productive life.
