Abstract

Islamic education is faced with major challenges in responding to the development of the times, especially in integrating religious and scientific education in the era of complex globalization. The Islamic education system that separates religion and general sciences causes low quality graduates and inequality in knowledge mastery. This study aims to understand the reasons behind the use of an integrative learning model between Islamic Religious Education and Science, analyze the implementation of integrative learning of Islamic religious education and science, and analyze the effectiveness of the implementation of the integrative learning model of Islamic Religious Education and Science at Palopo State Islamic Senior High School. The research paradigm uses the constructivism paradigm. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. This research was conducted at MAN Palopo. The informants were the Head of Madrasah, Waka. Curriculum, teaching staff for the PAI and Science subject groups, education staff, and students. The data collection techniques used participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the background of the implementation of the integrative learning model between Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and Science at the Palopo State Islamic Senior High School is driven by the awareness of the importance of integrating religious and scientific values. The implementation of this learning model has been going well, with PAI and Science teachers collaborating in a co-teaching approach and the application of projectbased learning. The proposition of this study is that if the integration between Islamic Religious Education and Science is carried out at the Palopo State Islamic Senior High School, the gap between religious knowledge and general knowledge will be reduced. The theoretical implication of this study is to support Fogarty's (1991) integrative learning theory, which confirms that the integrative learning model not only improves students' motivation and attitudes, but also enriches students' understanding of Islamic religious and scientific concepts. The study found that the integration of PAI and Science at the Palopo State Islamic Senior High School can improve the quality of learning as a whole, both in terms of cognitive and student character values.
