Abstract
This study aims to analyze the representation of global diversity values in the novel Putri Cina by Sindhunata and examine its relevance to Indonesian language instruction at the senior high school level. Employing a qualitative descriptive method with a literary sociology approach, this research investigates words, phrases, and sentences that reflect global diversity values. The data source is Sindhunata’s novel Putri Cina. The analysis reveals 17 global diversity values, including appreciation of cultural differences, tolerance, empathy, openness to different perspectives, anticipation of prejudice, and the ability to build harmonious social relationships. These values are portrayed through characters from diverse cultural backgrounds who are able to respect one another, collaborate, and coexist peacefully. Within the context of Indonesian language learning, these values are relevant for fostering students' character traits such as open-mindedness, critical thinking, and positive interaction in multicultural societies. Literature-based learning using texts like Putri Cina not only enhances language competence but also cultivates the tolerance and empathy essential in a globalized world. This study has significant implications for the development of Indonesian language instruction at the high school level, particularly in utilizing literary works as a medium for instilling global diversity values. Integrating values such as tolerance, empathy, respect for differences, and cultural openness through literary education can serve as an effective strategy for shaping inclusive and globally-minded learners. The novel Putri Cina can be used as a contextual teaching resource that enhances literacy skills while also strengthening students’ social awareness and critical thinking abilities in navigating the realities of a pluralistic society. Therefore, educators are encouraged to design Indonesian language learning that integrates cognitive, affective, and global diversity value aspects through relevant and contextual literary approaches.
