Abstract
Technological advances that drive globalization have had a significant impact, including in choosing modes of transportation. Public transportation (angkot), which was previously one of the main means of daily mobility, is now starting to be replaced by the presence of digital-based transportation that offers convenience, comfort, and efficiency. The development of digital transportation indirectly affects the existence of angkot, so that drivers face major challenges in maintaining their role and income. This study focuses on angkot drivers operating in three terminals in Malang City, namely Landungsari, Arjosari, and Hamid Rusdi (Gadang) Terminals, which are directly affected by the presence of digital transportation services. This study aims to understand the existence of public transportation drivers in Malang City, as well as to analyze the impact of the presence of digital transportation. The method used in this study is to use a qualitative method and use a case study. Data collected through observation, documentation, and interviews with public transportation drivers. The results of this study indicate that the presence of digital transportation in Malang City has caused a decline in the existence of public transportation, which has an impact on the lives of angkot drivers, especially in economic and social aspects. And there is no policy that favors all transportation actors, both conventional and digital, by establishing fair and transparent regulations. These findings are expected to provide insight to all parties and become a reference in formulating policies to support the sustainability of public transportation in Malang City.
