Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of phytosterol supplementation in feed on feed intake, body weight gain (BWG), and feed conversion efficiency (Feed Conversion Ratio/FCR) in Dorper sheep. The study involved two groups. The study used 9 sheep divided into two groups, namely the control group without phytosterol supplementation (P0) using 4 sheep and the treatment group with phytosterol supplementation (P1) using 5 sheep. This study used an experimental method and data analysis was carried out descriptively quantitatively. Results showed that feed intake in the P1 group was slightly higher at 57.02 kg/month compared to 56.74 kg/month in the P0 group. The average BWG in the P1 group reached 9.03 kg/month, significantly higher than the 6.22 kg/month recorded in the P0 group. The FCR value in the P1 group was lower (6.49) than in the P0 group (9.65), indicating improved feed utilization efficiency in the group supplemented with phytosterol. Thus, phytosterol supplementation has the potential to enhance growth performance and feed efficiency in Dorper sheep. Further research is recommended to optimize the dosage and administration method of phytosterol to support sustainable livestock productivity. Dietary supplementation of phytosterols has been proven to improve body weight gain, feed intake, and feed conversion in Dorper sheep.
