Abstract

This study, titled The Meaning of Social Interaction Signs in Film (A Semiotic Analysis of Roland Barthes in A Man Called Otto), aims to analyze the meaning of signs related to social interactions portrayed in the film A Man Called Otto. Film is a medium highly relevant for semiotic studies, as it employs symbols and signs to convey messages. This research applies Roland Barthes’ semiotic theory, focusing on the identification of denotative, connotative, and mythic signs that represent social interactions. The findings reveal two types of social interaction meanings: associative and dissociative, exemplified through various forms such as cooperation, assimilation, and conflict. This study is expected to enhance viewers social awareness and communication skills in everyday life.
