Abstract
This study aims to describe the cultural values of the Lefa tradition contained in the Lamafa novel by Fince Bataona, analyze the meaning of the tradition for the coastal community of Lamalera, and relate it to learning Indonesian. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a sociology of literature approach. The main data sources come from quotations in the novel and in-depth interviews with informants who understand the Lefa tradition. The results of the study show that there are four main values raised through the Lefa tradition, namely (1) the value of mutual cooperation reflected in the collective work of the community when making explosives, hunting whales and sharing the catch, (2) religious values that are seen in the Lefa Mass ritual, prayers, and spiritual beliefs in nature; (3) educational values that are seen through the inheritance of customary knowledge, leadership and respect for tradition; and (4) social values that regulate relationships between individuals in the community. The meaning of Lefa is not only as a cultural practice, but also as a foundation for the identity, spirituality and social ethics of the Lamalera community. In the context of learning Indonesian, the Lamafa novel can be used as a teaching material based on local wisdom that fosters cultural appreciation, enriches student literacy, and strengthens national identity. The representation of the values of the Lefa tradition in this literary work proves that literature has the power to maintain, reflect and transmit cultural heritage in the midst of modernization.
