Abstract

This study aims to analyze character values in Nusantara Bertutur fairy tales published in the Kompas Klasika daily and examine their relevance in Indonesian language learning in elementary schools. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive narrative method. The main data are twelve fairy tale texts and audio published between May–July 2024, supplemented by observation results, student questionnaires, and teacher interviews. The results of the analysis show that there are 27 character values spread across the fairy tale, including piety, gratitude, honesty, responsibility, perseverance, independence, mutual cooperation, tolerance, and creativity and initiative. These values are grouped into five behavioral ranges and four dimensions of character education, namely: heart exercise (ethics), thought exercise (literacy), sports (kinesthetic), and feeling and intention exercise (aesthetics & empathy). Students' responses to the fairy tale were very positive; they showed high interest, active participation, and good understanding of the moral message. Teachers also stated that this fairy tale was very relevant and effective for instilling character values while improving language skills. Thus, the Nusantara Bertutur fairy tale can be a strategic learning medium for integrating character education into the Indonesian language curriculum in elementary schools. This study contributes to the development of teaching materials based on local values and culture that can shape students' characters holistically.
